Research
I am a PhD student studying under Dr. Simon Brandl. My research focuses on the biogeochemical cycling of organic carbon, nitrogen, and trace elements within oyster reef ecosystems. By examining nutrient pathways from the water column through oyster filtration and into benthic sediments, I aim to understand how oysters influence nutrient assimilation and benthic food webs. Using stable isotope analysis, I will trace the sources and transformations of organic matter across water, sediment, oysters, and associated species. Additionally, I will investigate how nutrient export from reefs affects benthic community structure and trophic interactions. This work will provide insights into the ecological functions of oyster reefs and inform conservation strategies.
