Beach Clean Up - Campus Community Event

We’re excited to invite you to a Beach Clean-Up event on April 25th from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm, in partnership with the UTMSI Green Team and the Graduate Student Association! This is a great opportunity to help protect our local environment while enjoying time outdoors.

We’ll meet outside the front doors of the Patton Center and spend the afternoon cleaning up the Wetlands Education Center and the Jetty. However, please note that some areas along the Jetty will be marked off with flags and should be avoided. Caitie Christina, the Marine Debris Specialist with the Mission Aransas NERR, will be conducting a project in these sections, and the Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project, part of the NOAA Marine Debris Program, is studying debris accumulation in certain locations, including two sites at the Jetty. To avoid interfering with this research, guides will direct you along an alternate route.

Bags, gloves, and grabbers will be provided to make collecting debris easy and efficient. As a thank-you for your efforts, participants will receive a recycled mini decomposition notebook and pen (while supplies last). After the clean-up, we’ll continue the fun with an informal get-together—details to be announced later.
