Description
We are excited to welcome Annie Maxfield, Director of the Office of Career & Life Design at UT Austin, to UTMSI on March 31, 2026! Annie has been an advocate for graduate students and postdocs in achieving their chosen careers for over 15 years.
On Tuesday, March 31, Annie will host three career workshops in the ERC Seminar Room 2.314. These workshops are open to all students, postdocs, and technicians. We kindly ask that you register for these workshops by completing the form sent to your UT email no later than Wednesday, March 25.
9-10:30am - Career ExplorationThis session will center on developing self‑awareness by helping you identify your core values, strengths, and transferable skills before turning outward to explore potential career paths. Through guided assessments and reflection, we will clarify what you need in a work environment and learn strategies and resources for researching roles that align with who you are.
Light breakfast will be provided for registered attendees.
11-12pm - Academic Job Search PreparationThis session will provide a clear overview of the academic job search process, from identifying job listings to understanding what search committees look for. We’ll discuss how to assess institutional fit, tailor your materials to specific positions, and prepare strong application documents.
Light snacks will be provided for registered attendees.
12:15-1:30pm - Negotiation StrategiesThis informal, discussion‑based session will introduce strategies for identifying your needs and preparing effectively for negotiations. We’ll cover how to ask for what you want, evaluate offers, and navigate common negotiation scenarios in academia and beyond.
Lunch will be provided for registered attendees.
We look forward to having Annie on campus and hope that you'll be able to join her for one or more of the workshops!
