The Role of Comparative Physiology in Conservation and Fisheries Science
Description
Fish and seafood are important contributors to national food security and nutrition. In Texas, commercial and recreational fisheries are also valuable aspects of the coastal economy with an estimated annual value in excess of $2 billion. As such, there is incredible interest in understanding the interaction between the environment and organismal success or failure. This seminar will overview the emerging role of comparative physiology as the bedrock for mechanistic approaches to understanding organismal performance in the face of environmental change, including a discussion of the strengths, weaknesses and target areas of future research.
